How to Load a Dumpster Safely and Efficiently
· 3 min read

How you load a dumpster affects how much fits and whether it can be hauled safely. These habits help with both.
Heavy and flat items first
Place heavy, flat items like drywall, doors, and boards on the floor of the container. Spread weight evenly from front to back.
Break things down
- Disassemble furniture and shelving
- Flatten boxes
- Cut branches to lie flat
- Fill gaps with smaller debris
Keep it level
Debris must stay at or below the top edge of the container. Overfilled containers can't be hauled safely on public roads.
Keep prohibited items out
Concrete, shingles, tires, chemicals, liquids, and batteries don't belong in a dumpster. See our Accepted Materials page and ask about anything you're unsure of.
